UPDATE: Steven Robert Heine was severely crippled in a fall at his home in November 2024. He spent many weeks in the hospital and can no longer walk or even stand up. Your contribution will help pay for nursing care and his rehabilitation.

The position of Arizona State Poet Laureate was created by SB1348 and signed into law on May 11th, 2012. State Poet Laureate. By law, State Poet Laureates in Arizona are appointed for two year terms, and can serve no more than three consecutive terms.The current Arizona Poet Laureate is: Alberto Rios. Alberto was appointed by Governor Brewer on August 19th, 2013.
For more than ninety years the Phoenix Writers Club has provided workshops and support for writers of all genres in the Phoenix area. Their workshop is called: ‘Write on Writers’ or WOW. In their monthly workshops they read new works and take comments and suggestions from other members.
Monthly meetings (when possible) are held the 3rd Saturday of each month at Bluewater Grill, 1720 East Camelback, Phoenix. (See site above for meeting information).

The Central Phoenix Writers Workshop is a Meetup Group with more than 5,000 members. The above link provides a calendar of activities and events. Although some activities are now completely on the internet, the group remains very active in providing support to Phoenix writers of all genres.
The Glendale Writers Round Table welcomes writers of all genres. They provide support to writers of all levels, from beginners to accomplished writers and authors. They use the above Meetup calendar to provide information. Calendar events can only be seen by members. Please contact the group to ask about joining.
The Scottsdale Society of Women Writers This energetic group of women writers provides resources and support for women writers of all genres. The group uses a Meetup site to provide a calendar of events and information about the group. Currently, there are nearly 250 members in the group. Their purpose is to ‘challenge, support and challenge each other’. Information can be found on the link above.
The East Valley Writeing Workshop of Mesa is a group of more than 3,000 members that support local writers by providing writing workshops where writers can get input from other writers. They use a Meetup site for group and calendar information, (above).
** The West Valley Writers Workshop of Avondale** is a group of more than 400 members.Normally, the group meets the first Saturday of each month at the Avondale Public Library. During the pandemic, all meetings are online, via Zoon. See site for meeting times. The group supports writers of all genres, from fiction to poetry. They provide critiques and information on how to become published. The group appears to be a good resource for all writers in the area.
The Phoenix Chapter- Nonfiction Authors Association. This Meetup group of 300 members is the Phoenix chapter of the nationwide group, NFFA. The focus of the group is very much on the business side of writing and promoting nonfiction works by members. They also have connections to the NFFA resources. They use a Meetup site (above) to provide information about the group and events.&&&&&&&&&&&
